Wills

What A Will Does

A Will dictates what will happen to your property after you pass away. If you don't have a will the division of assets may not occur how you would like and can cause undue stress at a time when family is trying to grieve.

You should get one drafted by someone with experience, such as a lawyer. The will must be signed and witnessed as if the proper procedures are not followed, your will may not be valid. A will needs both an executor and a trustee. An executor obtains probate of your will and the trustee carries out your wishes as set out in your will when you die.

Review Your Will

If you have had any life changes such as the birth of a child, a marriage or divorce or the purchase of a new property it is a good idea to review your will. Remember to keep a copy of your will in an accessible place - and make sure your executor knows where it is.
