What is Superannuation?

New Zealand Superannuation is a government pension plan paid to Kiwis over the age of 65. Those New Zealander Eligible receive the NZ Super regardless of how much they earn through paid work, savings and investments or what assets they own or what taxes they have paid.


Are you eligible?

To be eligible for NZ Super, you need to be a New Zealand resident aged over 65. You need to have lived here for 10 years since the age of 20 and lived five of those years in NZ since you turned 50.


How much is NZ Super?

Each year the NZ Super payments is changed by the government each year to take into inflation and the cost of living. You can find out what the rates are at the work and income website listed below:


How to apply for NZ Super?

You can apply for the NZ Super three months before you turn 65. Call Work and Income on 0800 552 002.
